Our cat Alice is the most imposing being – she is literally in your face – licking, purring, demanding attention.
It’s wonderful, it’s irritating and infuriating and we’re torn between delight that she seems to love us and horror that she is so demanding, especially when we’re trying to sleep!
Customers can be like that too. They come in or call and want to chat, they relax and settle in to hang out with you which is a delight and a gift – however you’re busy too – you have things to accomplish and other customers to help.
This is the same dilemma we have with our feline. Do you push the demanding client away and risk hurting their feelings or do you simply let the licking continue? And sometimes don’t we feel like we’re taking a licking?
There are many answers here and all of them stem from your intent and depend on your delivery – isn’t that the truth with most communication?
